“When Timothy comes, see that you put him at ease among you, for he is doing the work of the Lord, as I am. So let no one despise him. Help him on his way in peace, that he may return to me, for I am expecting him with the brothers.” – 1 Corinthians 16:10-11 (ESV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
1 Corinthians 16:10-11 provides insight into Timothy’s character and the challenges he faced as a young leader. Paul instructs the Corinthian church on how to receive Timothy, urging them to “put him at ease among you.” He emphasizes Timothy’s authority, stating that “he is doing the work of the Lord, as I am,” and warns them, “So let no one despise him.” Paul also requests that they “help him on his way in peace” so that he may return to Paul with the brothers, showcasing Timothy’s role as a messenger and a representative.
As a disciple, you may be called to support, encourage, and affirm the leadership of others, especially those who are younger or less experienced. Paul’s instructions remind you to treat all believers with respect, to value their contributions, and to create a welcoming environment where they can thrive. You are empowered to be a source of encouragement, affirmation, and support to those who are serving God in your church and in your community.
This week, be intentional about creating a welcoming and supportive environment for young leaders in your church. Offer your encouragement, your wisdom, and your practical assistance. Help them to feel valued, respected, and empowered to use their gifts for the glory of God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be a welcoming and supportive member of my church community, especially to those who are younger or less experienced. Give me the wisdom to encourage them, to affirm their gifts, and to create a safe and supportive environment where they can thrive. May my life be a reflection of your love, your grace, and your desire for unity within your body. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
