“And after the meeting of the synagogue broke up, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who, as they spoke with them, urged them to continue in the grace of God.” – Acts 13:43 (ESV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Acts 13:43 describes the initial success of Paul and Barnabas’ ministry in Pisidian Antioch. After preaching in the synagogue, many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed them, eager to learn more. The verse highlights the pastoral care of Paul and Barnabas, who “urged them to continue in the grace of God.” This passage underscores the importance of encouraging new believers to persevere in their faith and to embrace the transformative power of grace. The text also shows that the change in how they’re referred to now (Paul and Barnabas, instead of Barnabas and Paul) shows a shift in who leads.
As a disciple, you are called to not only share the Gospel but also to nurture and encourage those who have responded to its message. Barnabas’ example reminds you that encouragement is essential for spiritual growth and perseverance. You are empowered to speak words of life, to offer support, and to challenge others to abide in the grace of God. It is also important to realize that leadership can shift and we need to be okay with following God’s plan.
This week, reach out to someone who is new to the faith or who is struggling in their spiritual journey. Offer your encouragement, your support, and your wisdom. Share your own experiences of God’s grace and challenge them to continue to abide in His love.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me a heart of compassion and a desire to encourage others in their faith. Help me to speak words of life, to offer support, and to challenge those who are struggling. May I be a source of strength and encouragement to those who are new to the faith, helping them to abide in Your grace and to grow in their love for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
