“When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.” – Acts 1:13 (NIV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Acts 1:13 provides a snapshot of the apostles in the days between Jesus’ ascension and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Notably, Thomas is present, listed among the other disciples who gathered in the upper room. This verse underscores the importance of community, unity, and patient waiting in the life of a believer. Despite his past doubts, Thomas is now fully integrated with the other disciples as they collectively await the promised Holy Spirit.
As a disciple, you are called to be part of a community of believers who support, encourage, and challenge one another. You are also called to cultivate a spirit of patient waiting, trusting that God will fulfill His promises in His own time and in His own way. Thomas’ presence in the upper room reminds you that even when you don’t fully understand what God is doing, you can find strength and encouragement in the company of other believers as you wait together on the Holy Spirit.
This week, make an intentional effort to connect with your church community. Attend services, participate in small groups, and seek opportunities to serve alongside other believers. As you wait on God’s promises, encourage one another, pray for one another, and trust that He will fulfill His purposes in your lives.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of community and for the opportunity to connect with other believers. Help me to be a faithful and supportive member of my church. Give me the patience to wait on Your promises and the wisdom to discern Your will. May we be united in our love for You and in our commitment to serving You together. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
