“Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;” – Matthew 10:3 (NIV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Matthew 10:3 lists Thomas among the twelve apostles chosen by Jesus. While this verse provides no specific details about his personality or ministry, it establishes his place within the inner circle of disciples. Thomas’ inclusion in this list is significant when viewed in light of his later, more well-known story: his initial doubt about Jesus’ resurrection (John 20:24-29). This verse shows that even someone who would struggle with belief was still called and chosen by Jesus to be a key part of His ministry.
As a disciple, you may experience moments of doubt, uncertainty, or skepticism. You may struggle to believe in things that you cannot see or understand. Thomas’ example reminds you that it’s okay to have questions, to wrestle with your faith, and to seek evidence of God’s presence in your life. God welcomes your honest doubts and uses them to deepen your understanding and strengthen your belief. He does not condemn questioning, but instead invites honest introspection.
This week, if you are struggling with doubts or questions about your faith, don’t be afraid to explore them. Seek answers through prayer, study of the Scriptures, and conversations with trusted mentors or friends. Be honest with God about your struggles and ask Him to reveal Himself to you in a way that you can understand.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I confess my struggles with doubt and uncertainty. Help me to be honest about my questions and to seek answers through prayer, study of Your Word, and conversations with trusted mentors. Reveal Yourself to me in a way that I can understand and strengthen my belief in Your love, Your power, and Your plan for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
