Spreading the Word- Philip’s Ministry in Samaria

May 26, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“Therefore those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed Christ there. When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they paid close attention to what he said.” – Acts 8:4-6 (NIV)

Good morning fellow disciples.

Acts 8:4-6 reveals Philip’s pivotal role in spreading the Gospel beyond Jerusalem. After the persecution that arose following Stephen’s death, believers were scattered, and Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed Christ there. The passage emphasizes the effectiveness of Philip’s ministry: “When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they paid close attention to what he said.” This underscores the powerful combination of proclamation and demonstration of God’s power in reaching people for Christ.

As a disciple, you are called to share the Gospel with others, wherever you go. Philip’s example reminds you that you don’t need to be a professional evangelist to make a difference. You can proclaim Christ through your words, your actions, and your lifestyle. The Holy Spirit can empower you to perform “signs” that will draw people to Jesus.

This week, look for opportunities to share the Gospel with those around you. Be intentional about speaking about your faith and demonstrating God’s love through your actions. Pray for the Holy Spirit to empower you to be a witness to Christ’s transforming power.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, fill me with your Holy Spirit and empower me to be a witness to your love and your truth. Open doors for me to share the Gospel with those around me and give me the courage to speak your name with boldness. May my life be a reflection of your grace and may I lead others to discover the joy of knowing you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
