My Lord and My God- Thomas’ Ultimate Confession of Faith

May 5, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”” – John 20:28 (NIV)

Good morning fellow disciples.

John 20:28 marks the climax of Thomas’ journey from doubt to faith. After personally encountering the resurrected Jesus and seeing the evidence he had demanded, Thomas exclaims, “My Lord and my God!” This declaration is the highest confession of faith in the Gospel of John, signifying Thomas’ complete surrender and recognition of Jesus’ divine identity. His words are not just an intellectual assent, but a heartfelt expression of worship and devotion.

As a disciple, you are called to move beyond intellectual understanding of faith and to encounter the living Christ in a personal and transformative way. Thomas’ confession reminds you that true faith is not just about believing certain doctrines or following certain rules, but about recognizing Jesus as your Lord and your God, surrendering your life to Him, and worshipping Him with all your heart, soul, and mind.

This week, take time to reflect on your relationship with Jesus. Is He merely a historical figure, a moral teacher, or a religious leader to you? Or is He truly your Lord and your God? Surrender your life to Him anew and commit to worshipping Him with all your heart, soul, and mind.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I confess that you are my Lord and my God. I surrender my life to you and commit to worshipping you with all my heart, soul, and mind. Transform my understanding of you from intellectual ascent to recognition of the living Christ, drawing me ever deeper into relationship with you. May my life be a testament to your love, your grace, and your truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
