“Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”” – John 14:5 (NIV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
John 14:5 presents Thomas’ honest and direct question to Jesus during the Last Supper discourse. Jesus had just told them that He was going away to prepare a place for them and that they knew the way to where He was going. Thomas, however, expresses his confusion, saying, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” This question reveals Thomas’ practical, concrete mindset and his desire for clear, understandable instructions. He wasn’t afraid to admit his lack of understanding and to seek clarification from Jesus.
As a disciple, you may encounter times when you feel confused, uncertain, or overwhelmed by the complexities of faith. You may struggle to understand God’s will, to discern His leading, or to make sense of difficult circumstances. Thomas’ example encourages you to be honest with God about your struggles and to seek His guidance and clarity. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, to express your doubts, or to admit your limitations. God welcomes your honest inquiry and promises to lead you in the right way.
This week, identify any areas in your life where you feel confused, uncertain, or overwhelmed. Take time to pray and to seek God’s guidance. Be specific in your questions and honest about your struggles. Trust that He will reveal His will to you in His own time and in His own way.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I confess my confusion, uncertainty, and feelings of being overwhelmed. Help me to be honest with You about my struggles and to seek Your guidance and clarity. Reveal Your will to me in Your own time and in Your own way. Lead me in the right path and give me the wisdom to follow Your leading. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
