From Deliverance to Devotion- Mary Magdalene’s Grateful Following

May 7, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had gone out; Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.” – Luke 8:1-3 (NIV)

Good morning fellow disciples.

Luke 8:1-3 introduces Mary Magdalene as one of the women who traveled with Jesus and His disciples, providing support for their ministry. The verse explicitly states that “seven demons had gone out” of her, highlighting the profound deliverance she experienced through Jesus’s power. Mary Magdalene’s presence in this group demonstrates the transformative power of Christ and the gratitude that compels those who have been healed to serve Him. It also shatters cultural norms, as women were not typically mentioned.

As a disciple, you may have experienced God’s healing, deliverance, or restoration in your own life. Mary Magdalene’s example reminds you that gratitude is an essential response to God’s grace. You are empowered to use your gifts, talents, and resources to serve Him and to support His Kingdom work. Your testimony of God’s faithfulness can be a powerful witness to others. You don’t have to be wealthy or famous to make a difference, but it is important that you have a willing heart.

This week, reflect on the ways in which God has blessed you and delivered you from difficult situations. Identify ways in which you can use your gifts, talents, or resources to serve Him and to support His Kingdom work. Consider volunteering your time, giving financially, or using your skills to help others in need.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for your healing, your deliverance, and your restoration in my life. Help me to be grateful for your blessings and to use my gifts, talents, and resources to serve you and to support your Kingdom work. May my life be a testimony to your love, your grace, and your power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
