Faithful to the Mission

February 26, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“After testifying and preaching the word of the Lord in Samaria, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem. And they stopped in many Samaritan villages along the way to preach the Good News.” Acts 8:25 (NLT)

Good morning fellow disciples.

This verse shows us the unwavering commitment of Peter and John to the mission of spreading the Gospel. After completing their ministry in Samaria—praying for new believers to receive the Holy Spirit—they didn’t simply return to Jerusalem and rest. Instead, they used their journey back as another opportunity to continue preaching and sharing the Good News in the Samaritan villages they passed through.

Peter and John’s actions demonstrate their understanding that the Gospel is for all people, including the Samaritans, who were often despised by Jews in that time. Their willingness to stop and preach along the way reveals a heart fully dedicated to the mission of Christ, always looking for opportunities to bring the message of salvation to others. These apostles exemplify what it means to be faithful disciples, prioritizing God’s mission even in the midst of travel and potential fatigue.

Peter and John’s faithfulness to the mission of sharing the Gospel inspires us to evaluate how we are using our time and opportunities. Their example reminds us that discipleship is not just about big, planned moments of ministry—it’s also about the small, everyday decisions to share Christ wherever we go. This verse empowers us to redirect our focus from viewing life as divided into “ministry moments” and “everything else” to seeing every moment as an opportunity to be a witness for Jesus. Whether we’re at work, school, traveling, or spending time with friends, God can use us to bring His love and truth to those around us.

This week, challenge yourself to look for opportunities to share the Gospel or encourage someone in their faith during your daily routines. As you travel from one place to another—whether it’s commuting to work, running errands, or taking a walk—be intentional about redirecting your focus to see the people around you as opportunities for ministry. Strike up a conversation, share a kind word, or simply offer to pray for someone. Be faithful like Peter and John, using every step of your journey to glorify God.

Prayer: Father God, thank You for the example of Peter and John, who faithfully shared the Good News wherever they went. Help me to see every moment of my life as an opportunity to serve You and share Your love with others. Redirect my focus from my own plans and routines to Your mission of reaching the lost. Give me eyes to see the people around me who need to hear about Your grace and courage to share the Gospel boldly. I commit to being faithful to the mission, no matter where I go. Use me, Lord, for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
