Driven to Dependence: How the Battle Deepens Your Relationship with God

September 12, 2025

By Andrew Williams

Opening Prayer:
Father, thank you for our weakness, because it creates a space for us to experience Your perfect strength.

Today’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9a(NLT)
“Each time he said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.'”

If we’re honest, most of us prefer to feel strong and self-sufficient. We like having things under control. But spiritual warfare has a way of showing us the limits of our own strength very quickly. The enemy attacks, and we realize we are not strong enough, not wise enough, and not good enough to win on our own.

This feeling of inadequacy is not a sign of failure; it is a doorway to intimacy with God. The resistance you face is designed by the enemy to make you give up. But God uses that same resistance to make you give in—to surrender your self-reliance and fall into His arms. It’s in the moments when we are most aware of our weakness that we are most open to receiving His strength.

God’s grace isn’t just for salvation; it’s His moment-by-moment empowering presence for the battle. His power “works best in weakness.” Your weakness is not a liability; it is the very condition required for God’s power to be displayed most perfectly in your life. The battle drives you out of the shallows of self-reliance and into the deep waters of dependence on God, and that is where true relationship is found.

Disciple’s Life Tip:
Identify one battle you’ve been trying to fight in your own strength. Right now, stop and pray this simple prayer of surrender: “Lord, I am weak here, and I need you. I trade my strength for yours. Let your power work in my weakness.”

Closing Prayer: God, we thank you for the struggles that force us to our knees, because that is where we find You. Amen.
