“Then Thomas (also known as Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.” – John 11:16 (NIV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
John 11:16 offers a glimpse into the complexity of Thomas’ character. When Jesus decides to return to Judea, a dangerous territory where His life was threatened, the disciples express their concerns. It is Thomas, also known as Didymus (meaning “twin”), who declares, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.” While this statement might be interpreted as pessimistic, it also reveals Thomas’ profound loyalty and willingness to stand with Jesus, even in the face of potential death. His words, though laced with a sense of foreboding, demonstrate a courageous commitment to follow Jesus, no matter the cost.
As a disciple, you may be called to follow Jesus into difficult or dangerous situations. You may face opposition, persecution, or even the threat of physical harm for your faith. Thomas’ example reminds you that true discipleship requires courage, commitment, and a willingness to stand with Jesus, even when it’s unpopular or risky. You are empowered by the Holy Spirit to overcome your fears and to follow Jesus, wherever He may lead.
This week, reflect on your commitment to following Jesus. Are you willing to stand with Him, even when it’s difficult or dangerous? Are you willing to face opposition or persecution for your faith? Pray for the courage to overcome your fears and to follow Jesus, wherever He may lead.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me the courage and commitment to follow You, even when it’s difficult or dangerous. Help me to overcome my fears and to stand with You, no matter the cost. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, so that I may be a faithful and courageous disciple, willing to go wherever You lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
