Series: The Year of the Prophet- Month 10: The New Testament Prophet & Christ
Week 39: Jesus, The Ultimate Prophet
Anchor Scripture: “See, I have told you beforehand… Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” — Matthew 24:25, 35 (NKJV)
The Teaching
While the New Testament prophetic office emphasizes “edification, exhortation, and comfort,” we must not ignore the fact that the Ultimate Prophet was also a Predictor. In the Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24), Jesus sat on a mountain and gave His disciples a detailed map of the future. He spoke of wars, famines, earthquakes, the rise of false prophets, and the eventual destruction of the Temple.
Jesus’ “Foretelling” was fundamentally different from the “Fortune-Telling” of the world. He didn’t provide information to satisfy curiosity or to help people gain natural wealth. He spoke of the future to provide Endurance and Immunity.
- Endurance: He wanted them to know that when things got dark, it wasn’t a sign that God had lost control, but that the “Birth Pangs” had begun.
- Immunity: He warned them “beforehand” so that they would not be “deceived” by the chaotic events of history.
To follow Jesus in the prophetic office is to realize that God still shares His “Future-Sod” (secrets) with His friends. You are authorized to see the “Trajectories” of history. You are called to be a spiritual “Early Warning System” for the Church, providing the map that keeps the people from panicking when the world begins to shake.
Prophetic Insight
Maturity means you use “Future Sight” as a Preparation Tool, not a Fear Tactic. If you receive a revelation about a coming crisis or a future shift, your job is not to cause a “scare,” but to “steady” the saints. Jesus said, “See that you are not troubled” (Matthew 24:6). A true word about the future should result in Sober Vigilance (Day 156), not frantic anxiety. The test of your accuracy in foretelling is whether your words “stand” while “heaven and earth pass away.” You are the custodian of the “Eternal Perspective.” Your job is to remind the Church that history is not a random series of accidents; it is a “Script” that ends with the King on His throne.
The Activation
Identify a “Global Event” or a “Future Uncertainty” that is currently causing fear in the people around you. Today, perform a Discernment of Pang. Ask the Holy Spirit: “Lord, what is the ‘Word beforehand’ for this situation? How do You want Your people to prepare? Give me the ‘Steady Sound’ that keeps Your Bride from being troubled.” Write down one decree of peace over the future of your family or nation.
Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank You that the future is in Your hands. I ask for the grace to see ‘beforehand’ as You did. Forgive me for my fear and my short-sightedness. I choose to trust Your map of history. Let my voice be a source of endurance and clarity for Your people. I refuse to be troubled by the shaking of the earth, because Your Word will never pass away. Amen.
