Series: The Year of the Prophet- Month 10: The New Testament Prophet & Christ
Week 39: Jesus, The Ultimate Prophet
Anchor Scripture: “And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.” — Matthew 14:14 (NKJV)
The Teaching
Many of the archetypes we’ve studied are characterized by judgment, confrontation, or severity. But Jesus introduced a defining characteristic for the New Testament office: Compassion. While the prophet is still a “Sentinel” (Month 6) and a “Reformer” (Month 5), the driving engine of their voice must be the same as Jesus’: a heart that is “moved” by the condition of the people.
Compassion in the Greek is splagchnizomai—it literally means to feel something in your “guts” or “bowels.” It is a deep, visceral reaction to the suffering of another. For Jesus, prophecy and healing were not just “duties”; they were the Natural Overflow of His Love. He didn’t speak to people about God; He spoke to people from the heart of God.
This archetype teaches us that the prophetic word is a Healing Agent. In the New Covenant, the Prophet is often sent to the “multitude”—the weary, the scattered, and the broken. Your words are meant to “bind up the brokenhearted” and “comfort all who mourn” (Isaiah 61:1–2). The “Sword of the Spirit” (Day 196) is not just for fighting demons; it is for performing Life-Saving Surgery on wounded souls.
Prophetic Insight
If your “prophetic gift” makes you feel “superior” to people or “distant” from their pain, you are not following the Ultimate Prophet. Maturity is moving from “Prophesying at people” to “Prophesying over people.” You must allow your heart to be “moved” (Day 262). When you see someone’s mess, your first response should be “Compassion,” not “Correction.” Love is the only thing that makes Truth palatable. A prophetic word delivered without compassion is a “clanging cymbal” (1 Corinthians 13:1). But when you speak from a place of genuine empathy, your words carry a “Resurrection Weight” that literally pulls people out of their despair. A true prophet is a “Physician of the Spirit.”
The Activation
Identify a “Multitude” or an individual in your sphere who is “weary and scattered”—someone who is clearly failing or struggling. Today, perform a Compassion Scan. Stop looking for their “sin” and start looking for their “wound.” Ask the Holy Spirit: “Lord, what is Your heart feeling for this person right now?” Speak a word of comfort or hope to them today that acts as a “Healing Ointment.”
Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your radical compassion. I ask today for the ‘Jesus-Heart’ for Your people. Forgive me for my coldness and for my desire to be ‘right’ rather than ‘redemptive.’ Soften my spirit today. Let me feel what You feel for the broken. Use my voice to bring healing and restoration to the weary. Let every word I speak be seasoned with Your Love. Amen.
