Series: The Year of the Prophet- Month 6: The Watchman on the Wall
Week 24: Standing in the Gap (The Wall of Intercession)
Anchor Scripture: “O Israel, your prophets are like foxes in the deserts. You have not gone up into the gaps to build a wall for the house of Israel to stand in battle on the day of the Lord.” — Ezekiel 13:4–5 (NKJV)
The Teaching
In Ezekiel 13, God rebukes the “foolish prophets” by comparing them to foxes. Why foxes? Because a fox in the ruins of a wall is a parasite. It lives in the “gaps” but does nothing to fix them. It benefits from the brokenness of others. In contrast, a true prophet is called to be a Shield for the people.
Protective intercession is the use of the prophetic voice to build a spiritual perimeter around a person, a family, or a church. When a watchman sees an attack coming in the spirit realm, they don’t just “shout” about it; they use their authority to “block” it. You “build a wall” through your decrees.
As a prophet, you are a “Rear Guard.” While the Apostle is leading the charge into new territory, and the Pastor is caring for the sheep in the center, you are often at the “gates,” watching the “backdoor” of the camp. You sense the arrows of accusation, the spirits of division, and the “syphoning” spirits that try to drain the energy of the leadership. By standing in intercession, you act as a spiritual “Buffer,” catching the blows so that the “House” can stand in battle.
Prophetic Insight
Prophetic intercession is not just “asking God for things”; it is Spiritual Legislation. You are using the keys of the Kingdom to “bind” and to “loose.” If you sense a spirit of infirmity trying to enter your home, you don’t just “hope it goes away”—you use your voice as a shield. You say, “I forbid this spirit of sickness from crossing this threshold.” The Prophet is the “Security Detail” of the Spirit. Your prayers provide a “covering” for those you serve. If you are called to this office, you must realize that people’s safety is often tied to your silence or your sound. If you are silent, the “foxes” get in. If you speak, the “wall” is built.
The Activation
Today, perform a “Shielding Exercise” for your family or your church leaders. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you any “arrows” being shot at them (accusations, exhaustion, or discouragement). Then, use your voice to “build the wall.” Say out loud: “I stand as a shield for [Names]. I intercept the arrow of [Name the attack]. I decree a hedge of fire around their minds and their health. You shall not penetrate this wall in the Name of Jesus.”
Daily Prayer: Lord God, I thank You that You are my Sun and my Shield. I ask for the grace to be a faithful shield for Your people today. Forgive me for being like a ‘fox in the desert’—living in the ruins without repairing them. I choose to go up into the gaps and build a wall. Let my intercession be a source of safety for my leaders and my family. Use my voice to block every scheme of the enemy. Amen.
