Week 22: The Nature of the Watchman (Placement & Vigilance)
Anchor Scripture: “But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them… his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.” — Ezekiel 33:6 (NKJV)
The Teaching
We conclude our first week on the “Watchman” by addressing the most sobering aspect of the prophetic office: Divine Accountability. In the Kingdom, revelation is not given for the prophet’s entertainment or to make them feel “special.” Revelation is a Legal Liability.
God uses a terrifying phrase with Ezekiel: “His blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.” In ancient times, if a watchman fell asleep or stayed silent while an enemy approached, he was executed as a traitor. In the spiritual realm, the Prophet is held to a similar standard. If God shows you a “sword” (a coming judgment, a demonic attack, or a path of destruction) and you choose to stay silent because you are afraid of being disliked, you are spiritually responsible for the casualties.
This weight of accountability is what keeps the Prophet from becoming a “Professional Motivator.” There are times when the Word of the Lord is not “positive.” There are times when it is a warning. To withhold a warning in the name of “being nice” is not an act of love; it is an act of self-preservation. You are choosing your own comfort over the other person’s survival. A true watchman realizes that their primary duty is not to keep the people happy, but to keep the people alive.
Prophetic Insight
The “Fear of Man” (Day 49) is a luxury a watchman cannot afford. If you are more concerned with your reputation than with your mandate, your “hands” are in danger. Many prophets are currently carrying a spirit of “heaviness” or “depression” that is actually suppressed revelation. You are feeling the weight of the word you refuse to speak. When you blow the trumpet—no matter how unpopular the sound—you “deliver your own soul.” You clear your hands. You are not responsible for how the people react to the warning; you are only responsible for giving it. The moment the sound leaves your lips, the weight moves from your shoulders to theirs.
The Activation
Identify a “Warning” you have been suppressing—a truth you know you should speak, or a prayer you should have sounded, but you’ve held back out of fear of rejection. Today, clear your hands. Ask the Lord for the “Window of Opportunity” to speak that truth with love and clarity. If you cannot speak to the person yet, “blow the trumpet” in the spirit through intercession. Say, “Lord, I sound the alarm over [Situation]. I refuse to have blood on my hands. I deliver the warning today.”
Daily Prayer: Lord God, I thank You that You are a God of Mercy who warns before He acts. I accept the weight of my accountability as a watchman. Forgive me for my silence and my fear of man. I repent for any time I have prioritized my comfort over the safety of Your people. Wash my hands today. Give me the boldness to blow the trumpet with a clear and certain sound. I choose to be faithful to the Word, regardless of the reaction. Amen.
