Series: The Year of the Prophet- Month 5: The Prophet’s Mandate: To Root Out and To Plant
Week 21: Planting for the Future (Sustainability)
Anchor Scripture: “And He said, ‘The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how.’” — Mark 4:26–27 (NKJV)
The prophet’s mandate is not just for today, but for the generations to come.
The Teaching
The final verb of the Jeremiah Mandate is to “plant.” Planting is fundamentally different from building. When you build a wall, it has the same shape on Day 1 that it has on Day 100. But when you plant a seed, it is invisible for a season, then it is a sprout, and only much later is it a tree. To “plant” as a prophet means to release words that carry Latent Power.
A “Seed Word” is a prophecy that is not intended for immediate fulfillment. It is a word of truth, identity, or destiny that is dropped into the “soil” of a person’s spirit to grow over time. Just as the sower in Mark 4 goes to sleep and the seed grows “he knows not how,” the prophet often releases a word and then “disappears” from the process. The word itself contains the DNA of the harvest; it doesn’t need the prophet to “make” it grow.
To be a prophet who plants is to be a person of Patience. You are not looking for an immediate “shout” or an instant breakthrough. You are looking for a “legacy.” You are planting truths in children that will fruit when they are adults. You are planting visions in a church that will take a decade to mature. You are a “Kingdom Investor,” placing the “Incorruptible Seed” of the Word (1 Peter 1:23) into the hearts of men.
Prophetic Insight
Do not judge the success of your ministry by the “immediate harvest.” Some of the most powerful words you will ever speak will seem to “fall to the ground” and die. But Jesus said that unless a seed falls to the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain (John 12:24). If a word you gave hasn’t happened yet, it may not be “dead”—it may just be “planted.” The “soil” is currently processing the seed. Your job is not to dig it up every day to see if it’s working; your job is to trust the Quality of the Seed. A mature prophet is content to plant trees under whose shade they may never sit.
The Activation
Identify a “Prophetic Seed” that was planted in your life years ago—a word that didn’t make sense then but is starting to “sprout” now. Today, thank God for the “Sower” who planted it. Then, ask the Holy Spirit: “Is there a seed I need to plant in someone else today—a word for their future that they aren’t ready to harvest yet?” Speak that word of truth to them without expecting a “thank you” or a “result.”
Daily Prayer: Lord God, I thank You that Your Word is an incorruptible seed. I ask for the grace to be a faithful planter in Your Kingdom. Forgive me for my impatience and my desire for instant results. I choose to scatter Your seeds of truth on the ground of people’s hearts and trust You for the growth. Give me the wisdom to plant for the future, not just for the moment. Let my words produce a harvest that outlasts my own life. Amen.
