Series: The Year of the Prophet- Month 5: The Prophet’s Mandate: To Root Out and To Plant
Week 19: Pulling Down Strongholds (Spiritual Warfare)
Anchor Scripture: “And it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, ‘Is that you, O troubler of Israel?’ And he answered, ‘I have not troubled Israel, but you and your father’s house have, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord…’” — 1 Kings 18:17–18 (NKJV)
The Teaching
One of the most sobering realizations for a prophet is that their very presence often brings Disruption. Ahab called Elijah the “troubler of Israel.” In the New Testament, the apostles were called “the men who turned the world upside down.” If you carry the Jeremiah Mandate to “root out” and “pull down,” you will inevitably be seen as a “troublemaker” by those who are comfortable in their compromise.
The Prophet is a Spiritual Disruptor. You are sent by God to interrupt the “peace” of a graveyard. If a church is dead in tradition, or if a family is comfortable in secret sin, your arrival will feel like a “threat.” The anointing you carry is “uncomfortable” to the flesh because it demands change. Like a light being turned on in a dark room, your presence causes the “scuttling” of the things that were hiding in the shadows.
It is important to understand that the “trouble” is not you; the “trouble” is the Word you carry. Ahab blamed Elijah for the drought, but the drought was actually caused by Ahab’s own disobedience. The Prophet simply announces the reality that is already there. You are not “creating” the conflict; you are “revealing” it. Disruption is the first stage of deliverance.
Prophetic Insight
If you find that your arrival in a new season or a new environment often triggers “waves” or “controversy,” do not immediately assume you have “failed.” If you were a “man-pleaser,” everyone would be happy. But because you are a “troubler of the flesh,” the spirit of Ahab will always be uncomfortable around you. Do not water down your presence to make people comfortable. If they are “at peace” in their sin, your job is to disturb that peace until they find the “Peace of God.” The Prophet is the “alarm clock” of the Body of Christ. An alarm clock is never popular with someone who wants to keep sleeping, but it is the only thing that will get them to the “Day.”
The Activation
Think of a situation where your presence or your word caused “trouble” or “uncomfortability.” Today, instead of apologizing for your anointing, own your mandate. Say to the Lord: “I am Your troubler. I accept the ‘uncomfortable’ anointing. Use me to disturb the status quo and to awaken those who are sleeping in compromise.” Ask for the wisdom to be “troubling” only in the Spirit, not in your own personality.
Daily Prayer: Lord God, I thank You that You are the Lord of the Breakthrough. I thank You for the ‘disruptor’s mantle.’ Forgive me for trying to be ‘liked’ at the expense of being ‘faithful.’ I ask for the grace to carry Your ‘troubling’ word with love and authority. Let my presence expose the shadows and awaken the sleeping. Use me to turn the world upside down for Your Kingdom. Amen.
