Week 17: Interpretation & The Prophetic Riddle
Anchor Scripture: “To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” — Isaiah 8:20 (NKJV)
The Teaching
In the prophetic process, there is a “Supreme Court” that has the final say on every vision, every dream, and every “word from the Lord.” That court is the Written Word of God (The Bible). No matter how vivid an encounter is, how “accurate” a prophet seems, or how powerful a “check” in the spirit feels, it must be held up to the light of the Scriptures.
The Spirit of God will never contradict the Word of God. The Holy Spirit, who is the Author of the Bible, will not give a “new” revelation that violates the character, the principles, or the mandates He has already set in print. The Bible is the Plumb Line (Day 23) for all prophetic activity.
If a “prophetic word” encourages someone to leave their spouse without biblical grounds, it is a false word. If a “vision” reveals a “new way to be saved” other than through Jesus, it is a demonic vision. If a “word of knowledge” brings condemnation rather than the “sorrow that leads to repentance,” it is not from God. The written Word is the “Safety Net” that protects the prophet from their own “soulish” imaginations and from the “strange fire” of the enemy.
Prophetic Insight
A prophet who is not a “Student of the Word” is a “Loose Cannon.” You cannot accurately interpret the “Rhema” (the spoken word for now) if you do not have a deep foundation in the “Logos” (the written word of all time). The Bible is your Prophetic Filter. The more you read the Word, the more you recognize the “Voice” of the Speaker. You learn the “patterns” of God. If you are having trouble discerning if a thought is from God, hold it up to the Law and the Testimony. If it doesn’t align, it has “no light” in it. Throw it away. Never let your “revelation” take precedence over the “Revelation.”
The Activation
Identify a “prophetic sense” or a dream you’ve had recently. Today, perform a “Scriptural Alignment Test.” Find at least two or three verses that align with the character or the content of that revelation. If you cannot find a biblical precedent for the “heart” of the message, hold onto it with caution or discard it. Say to the Lord: “I anchor my prophetic gift in Your Written Word. I refuse to follow any voice that does not match Yours.”
Daily Prayer: Lord God, I thank You for the rock-solid foundation of Your Word. I thank You that Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I ask for a deep hunger for the Scriptures. Forgive me for any time I have prioritized my ‘experience’ over Your ‘Exhortation.’ I choose to use the Bible as my ultimate filter. Let every word I speak be in perfect alignment with Your Truth. Amen.
