Conversations with Jesus at the Mount of Olives – Part 3

By Andrew Williams – September 30, 2022

But Peter said to Him, Even if they all fall away and are caused to stumble and distrust and desert You, yet I will not [do so]!
Mark 14:29 AMPC

Good morning fellow disciples.

Is Peter full of pride?

Why does Peter think that he would be the only one that could resist deserting Jesus?

Is his relationship with Jesus so much better than the others that he is resistant to failure?

If I was one of the other disciples who heard Peter say this I would not be pleased. But at the same time they probably were so distraught at hearing what Jesus said that they weren’t even paying proper attention to Peter’s remark.

In our churches today we find many persons who behave like Peter. They think that other persons will fail but they will not. They believe that they can resist certain things that others can’t. They believe that their relationship with God is so great in comparison to others. They believe that they cannot miss the mark that is placed in front of them by God.

But this is not true. We all have free will and many of us if not all will deny God when we are persecuted in the right way.

What are your thoughts about yourself today: Do you believe that you will never betray God?

  1. As long as we live in this life we will face persecution and temptation.
I have been there, but the grace of God has kept me and assured me of his forgiveness.
Thank God for the blood of Jesus.

  2. Good morning.
Yes we are faces with trials and temptations daily and the devil knows our weakness and know when we are at our lowest point and thats when he allows us to be tempted. I have been there, but I am so greatful for the grace and mercies that my father extended to me. He was patient with me and forgave me and give me a new slate.
None of us are perfect as we were humans before we became Christians and as long as we are living in this crazy place we will be tempted and yes some will mess up but is God alone forgive sin.
However, as children of God let us strive to hold fast and yield not to temptation.
