Conversations at Gethsemane – Part 20

By Andrew Williams – October 22,2022

And a young man was following Him, with nothing but a linen cloth (sheet) thrown about [his] naked [body]; and they laid hold of him, But, leaving behind the linen cloth (sheet), he fled from them naked.
Mark 14:51‭-‬52 AMPC

Good morning fellow disciples.

I want to make two points here:

1. When you follow Jesus, those who are in opposition to Him will try to capture you and arrest you also. This statement is both temporal and spiritual. Do not let yourself be taken captive by evil persons or by the devil!

2. Many persons followed Jesus. Nowhere does it state that Jesus had a dress code for His disciples. Here we see a young man who was only covered in a sheet and Jesus accepted him. Jesus was interested in their hearts. He wanted disciples who were willing to give up everything to follow Him as He gave them the Words of life from God the Father.

Let us not waste time focusing on the physical things of this life, thinking that they are prerequisites for being a disciple of Christ.

God is interested in our hearts.

What is your heart focused on? Is your heart’s desire to love God, live for God and, to serve Him?

Prayer: Father God, I come to You as I am. I know that I do not need to try to be better for You to accept me. I confess my sins to You and ask You to accept me, cleanse me, and make me Your own. I give You my heart: I surrender and submit to You. I will serve You wholeheartedly no matter the circumstance. I will live my life to honor You. Amen.
