He Is (Week 2: The Covenant Names of Provision)

Opening Prayer
Good Shepherd, thank You for Your constant, loving guidance. Help us to listen for Your voice and to trust where You are leading us.

Today’s Scripture (NLT)
Psalm 23:1
“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.”

This is perhaps the most beloved Psalm in the entire Bible, and it begins with one of the most intimate names for God: Yahweh Rohi, “The Lord Is My Shepherd.” This beautiful metaphor, used by David, a shepherd himself, paints a vivid picture of God’s tender, personal, and constant care for His people.

This name reveals God as our guide, our provider, and our protector. A good shepherd knows his sheep intimately. He leads them to green pastures (provision), guides them beside peaceful streams (peace), and protects them from predators (protection). He is not a distant ruler, but a hands-on, caring guide who is always with us.

To know God as Yahweh Rohi is to embrace a life of trustful dependence. It means we don’t have to figure everything out on our own. We can trust our Shepherd’s leading, even when He guides us through the “darkest valley.” Because He is our shepherd, we can confidently say, “I have all that I need.” Our security is not in our own wisdom, but in His faithful guidance.

Disciple’s Life Tip: Interact with God as Yahweh Rohi. Is there a decision or a path ahead that feels uncertain? In prayer, submit your confusion to your Good Shepherd, Yahweh Rohi. Ask Him to guide your steps and trust that He will lead you on the right path.

Closing Prayer: Yahweh Rohi, our Shepherd, thank You for Your gentle guidance and faithful care. Help us to follow You closely today, trusting that in You, we have everything we need. Amen.
