He Is (Week 2: The Covenant Names of Provision)
Opening Prayer
Lord, our Healer, we bring our brokenness—physical, emotional, and spiritual—to you, trusting in your power to make us whole.
Today’s Scripture (NLT)
Exodus 15:26
“…’If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.'”
Immediately after their miraculous deliverance through the Red Sea, the Israelites encounter bitter, undrinkable water. They grumble, and God responds by making the water sweet and then revealing a new aspect of His character. He declares, “I am the Lord who heals you,” or Yahweh Rapha.
This name reveals that God is the source of all healing and restoration. The word “Rapha” means to heal, to restore, to make whole. This is not limited to physical healing. God is the healer of broken hearts, broken relationships, and broken spirits. He is the one who can take the bitter areas of our lives and make them sweet. Our deepest sickness is sin, and He is the ultimate physician of our souls.
To know God as Yahweh Rapha is to run to Him in our brokenness. Whether the wound is in our body, our mind, or our soul, He is the Great Physician. He may heal miraculously, through medicine, through community, or through a long process, but He is always the ultimate source of our restoration.
Disciple’s Life Tip: Interact with God as Yahweh Rapha. Is there an area of brokenness or “bitterness” in your life? Bring it to Yahweh Rapha in prayer. Ask Him, the Great Physician, to bring His healing and restoring touch to that specific area.
Closing Prayer: Yahweh Rapha, thank you that you are my healer. I place my hurts and my sicknesses in your hands. I trust you to restore me and make me whole for your glory. Amen.
