Hannah was in deep anguish, crying bitterly as she prayed to the Lord. And she made this vow: “O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, if you will look upon my sorrow and answer my prayer and give me a son, then I will give him back to you. He will be yours for his entire lifetime, and as a sign that he has been dedicated to the Lord, his hair will never be cut.”
1 Samuel 1:10-11 NLT
Good morning fellow disciples.
Petition: a request made for something desired, especially a respectful or humble request, as to a superior or to one of those in authority; a supplication or prayer.
How much do you love God?
Are you willing to give Him the thing that you treasure the most?
Hannah was willing to give God the son that she was asking for. She made a vow and she kept it. She gave her son to Eli the priest when she weaned him. Wow! What a faithful woman!
When you petition God and He gives you what you desire the most, will you willingly give that back to Him?
Many persons pledge to give God something in order for Him to grant their petition. They sometimes are not faithful in giving Him what they pledge. Are you like that?
What type of petitions do you make?
Are your petitions selfish or self-centered?
Are your petitions made to benefit other persons?
Are your petitions ones that will honor and glorify God, and advance His Kingdom?
Prayer: Lord God, I want to honor You. I know You will grant my petitions. I humble myself before You and ask You to grant only those petitions that will bring glory and honor to You. Help me to honor my petitions by giving to You what I pledge.
As much as I want my petitions to be granted, I desire You more God. Whenever I am tempted to give my petitions priority, help me to redirect my focus to You and my love for You, in Jesus name I pray. Amen.
