Therefore, brothers, be patient until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth and is patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains.
James 5:7 HCSB
Good morning fellow disciples.
Wait: To stay or rest in expectation; to stop or remain stationary, till the arrival of some person or event; To rest in expectation and patience.
Jesus made a promise to His disciples before He went to heaven. He promised that He would return. We know that the Lord keeps all His promises and we are to wait until He returns.
James is encouraging us to wait patiently for His return.
Some of us, if not all of us, will probably die before Jesus returns. The encouragement still remains, we are to wait patiently for His return!
The problem that we have as believers is the time between when He left and the time when He will return.
We are encouraged to be like the farmer who waits patiently for the crop to sprout, grow, mature, and produce fruit so that it can be harvested.
As we can see there are things that are happening to the crop while the farmer is patiently waiting. My questions to you are these:
1. What changes are happening within you while you patiently wait for Jesus’ return?
2. Are you like the early rain or the late rain that waters a crop so that it produces a harvest? In other words, what are you doing to help God’s kingdom to grow?
3. Are you being patient with your fellow disciples as they mature in their Christian faith?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I patiently wait for Your return. There is no doubt in my mind that You will return for Your church. I trust You Lord. I am surrendered and committed to You.
While I wait for Your return I will do as You command. I will make disciples, I will preach the gospel, and I will love my fellow disciples. I will obey Your Word and I will follow Your Holy Spirit’s leading every day.
Whether I die before Your actual return of not is not important to me. What is important is that I obey You in all things. Lord, being faithful to You is my heart’s desire. Holy Spirit help me to live fully committed to God, I pray. Amen
God is always speaking to us , but are we listening to his voice?
May we be willing to act on his words.
