In the morning, O Lord, You hear my voice; at daybreak I lay my plea before You and wait in expectation. Psalms 5:3 BSB
Good morning, fellow disciples.
Wait is defined as: “to remain stationary in readiness or expectation.”
Many of us enjoy praying to God early in the morning. It is at this time that we give Him glory, honor, and praise. We also make intercession on behalf of others and ask Him for the things that we desire or need.
For many of us this is the extent of our prayer time with God, and this is essentially a one-sided conversation. Many of us do not wait to hear God’s response. Many of us do not even know that we are supposed to wait in expectation for God’s response.
When you are having a conversation with someone, don’t you wait for them to respond to you? Don’t you wait for them to respond to your requests and your pleas? Why then, don’t you wait on God to respond?
In this psalm the psalmist says that he waits in expectation. This should be the posture that we have when we come to God in prayer. We are to wait in expectation for an answer soon after speaking to Him. We are to continually wait in expectation until we see Him fulfill what we desire.
Sometimes the time between our prayers and the answer to those prayers may be delayed, but we are still to wait in expectation for God to fulfill them.
How good are you at waiting in expectation?
Prayer: Father God, I must admit that sometimes when I pray, I don’t even expect an answer. I just say what I have to say to You and then leave. This is not right, my God. It is disrespectful, and lacking in faith. I confess this as sin, and ask You to forgive me.
As Your child, I need to have faith. I need to believe that what I ask of You, You will answer. You will hear my pleas! You will save me! You will deliver me! You will heal me! Help me God to wait in expectation on You. Amen.
