Wait For The Promised One

By Andrew Williams – February 5, 2022

Wait For The Promised One

I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
John 1:33 NKJV

Wait: To stay or rest in expectation; to stop or remain stationary, till the arrival of some person or event.

I wonder how John the Baptist felt, knowing that he was called to prepare the way for the Messiah, a messiah that he did not know. God, however, gave him clear instructions to go and baptize with water and then one day when he saw the Spirit of God descending upon one that he baptized, then he would know who the Messiah was.

Can you imagine John baptizing person after person and looking to see this fulfilled? Can you imagine John’s disappointment each time he did not see the Holy Spirit descending? Can you imagine John’s elation when he finally saw the Holy Spirit descending on Jesus?

Even though John may have been anxious at times this did not stop him from continuing the ministry that God gave him. We see that even after he recognized Jesus as the Messiah that he continued with his ministry up until the time of his arrest.

You may not be saved and you’re waiting for God to show up in your life. You may be saved and you’re waiting for God to manifest Himself more in your life. You may be a disciple who is preaching the gospel without signs and wonders following.

I implore you to be like John who went about doing the work of the Lord until the promise became a reality. Keep on doing the little that you can for the Lord until He shows up mightily in your life.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I know that You are the promised One. Like John the Baptist I recognize You, like John the Baptist I might still be doing my own thing, but like his disciples I want to follow You. I want to get to know You more.

I want to live totally committed to You. I want to be used by You. I want to be Your faithful disciple. Teach me and guide me Holy Spirit, and help me to abide with God as You abide with me. Amen
