After they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken away from you?” “Please, let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.
“You have requested a difficult thing,” said Elijah. “Nevertheless, if you see me as I am taken from you, it will be yours. But if not, then it will not be so.”
2 Kings 2:9 -10 BSB
Good morning, fellow disciples.
Wait is defined as: “to stay or rest in expectation”.
Are you waiting to be rewarded? Are you really staying or resting in expectation that you will receive what you are seeking?
In this passage we see Elisha asking Elijah for a double portion of the anointing that was upon his life. Elijah’s response was: “if you see me as I am taken from you, it will be yours. But if not, then it will not be so.”
Sometimes we find it hard to meet the requirements that brings a reward. We don’t want to persevere, or we don’t want to wait for a long time. This story shows how determined Elisha was to remain with Elijah up until his departure. Elisha was determined to wait, to rest in expectation, for his master’s departure. Nothing could distract him from this!
Elisha was so confident in his ability to wait that he asked for a double portion of his master’s anointing. The risk was that he may not get it if he did not fulfill his master’s requirements.
Elisha’s wait was successful. He received his reward!
Wait like Elisha and be rewarded!
Prayer: Father God, I will wait for You! I will wait for You! On Your Word I Will rely. I will rest in expectation that I will be rewarded for putting my faith and trust in You.
The greatest reward that I seek is to live forever with You Lord. Help me to faithfully wait while I live surrendered, submitted, and totally dependent on You I pray. Amen.
