Visions

The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord God concerning Edom (We have heard a report from the Lord, And a messenger has been sent among the nations, saying, “Arise, and let us rise up against her for battle”): Obadiah 1:1 NKJV

Good morning fellow disciples.

Vision is defined as “something seen in a dream, trance, or ecstasy, especially : a supernatural appearance that conveys a revelation.”

We all have dreams. We sometimes think that our dreams are times when God is talking to us. Sometimes our dreams are not memorable and at other times they are so detailed and we can recall everything. We know that not all dreams or trances are visions. Does your dream have “a supernatural appearance that conveys a revelation ?”

We are not told if Obadiah’s vision was in the form of a trance, dream or ecstasy. What we see in this verse is that his vision was a revelation from God Almighty concerning Edom. This is the beginning of the revelation:

As we continue looking at this book we will look more into the revelation, but today I want us to just realize the following:

1. A vision is a revelation given to an individual,

2. Visions come from Spiritual beings,

3. Based on the vision we should be able to figure out if it’s from God or an evil spirit.

In our world there are so many persons who say that they have visions, so how do we know if these visions are really from God? Some questions that will help are these :

1. Does the vision line up completely with the word of God?

2. Is the person who received the vision serving God and is the fruit of the Spirit evident in his/her life?

3. Has previous visions from this person come to pass, AND, has their fulfilment caused persons to serve God more or to sin against God?

When we answer these questions we will begin to see more clearly who the supernatural being that gives the vision is.

Prayer : Father God thank You for teaching us what visions are? As we continue to seek Your face and seek to know You and fellowship with You, we ask you to speak to us in visions. We also ask You to make us wise as we see visions and hear other people’s visions.

We know that not every spirit that speaks to us is from You, and as we dream, have trances, or have ecstatic encounters may we test the spirit to see if it is from You. When we examine the visions we get help us to see if it glorifies You, lines up with Your Holy Word , and will lead persons ( including ourselves) into deeper relationship and fellowship with You.

Help us who are Your disciples to keep our focus on You. It’s all about You, and Your revelations that will draw us closer to You. God we thank You for Your Word that is the standard against which we can evaluate any vision. We ask You to use us Lord to challenge and bless others by giving us revelations in visions. We humbly ask this in Jesus’ Name, amen.
