Unwavering Partnership- Barnabas’ Steadfast Loyalty in the Face of Danger

June 16, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“But when the disciples gathered about him [Paul, after being stoned], he rose up and entered the city, and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe.” – Acts 14:20 (ESV)

Good morning fellow disciples.

Acts 14:20 powerfully illustrates the depth of Barnabas’ loyalty and commitment to Paul and to their shared mission. After Paul is stoned and left for dead in Lystra, the disciples gather around him. Miraculously, Paul rises up, and the next day, he and Barnabas continue their journey to Derbe. This passage reveals Barnabas’ unwavering support for Paul, his courage in the face of danger, and his determination to press on, even after experiencing intense persecution. He doesn’t abandon Paul, nor does he retreat in fear; instead, he stands alongside him and continues the work to which they have been called.

As a disciple, you are called to be a loyal and supportive friend, a steadfast partner in ministry, and a courageous witness to the Gospel. Barnabas’ example reminds you that true friendship is tested in times of adversity and that your presence and support can make a significant difference in the lives of others who are struggling. You are empowered to stand alongside your brothers and sisters in Christ, to encourage them in their calling, and to persevere together in the face of challenges.

This week, reach out to a friend, a colleague, or a fellow believer who is facing a difficult time. Offer your support, your encouragement, and your prayers. Be willing to stand with them, even when it’s uncomfortable or risky. Let them know that they are not alone and that you are committed to supporting them on their journey.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be a loyal and supportive friend, a steadfast partner in ministry, and a courageous witness to the Gospel. Give me the strength to stand with those who are struggling and to offer them Your love, Your grace, and Your unwavering support. May my life be a testament to Your faithfulness and may I be a source of encouragement to those in need. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
