“Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph, and Salome. In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women had come up with him to Jerusalem.” – Mark 15:40-41 (NIV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Mark 15:40-41 highlights the presence of several women, including Mary Magdalene, who were watching the crucifixion from a distance. These verses emphasize their unwavering loyalty to Jesus, even in the face of His suffering and death. The passage also notes that these women had followed Jesus in Galilee and “cared for his needs,” demonstrating their consistent devotion and practical support for His ministry. While the male disciples had fled, these women chose to remain, bearing witness to the agonizing reality of the cross.
As a disciple, you are called to remain faithful to Jesus, even in the midst of difficult or painful circumstances. You may face times when your faith is tested, when you feel discouraged or afraid, or when you are tempted to abandon your commitment to Christ. Mary Magdalene’s example reminds you that true loyalty endures through trials and that your presence, your support, and your prayers can make a difference in the lives of others, especially during times of suffering.
This week, reflect on your commitment to Jesus. Are you willing to stand with Him, even when it’s difficult or unpopular? Identify someone in your life who is going through a difficult time and offer your support, your prayers, or your practical help. Simply showing up is sometimes enough to display your love.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, strengthen my commitment to you and help me to remain faithful, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. Give me the courage to stand with those who are suffering and to offer them my support, my prayers, and my practical help. May my life be a testament to your love, your grace, and your unwavering presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
