Series: He Is (Week 3: The Names of His Righteous Character)

Opening Prayer
Our Rock, when the storms of life are raging, thank you for being our unshakeable foundation and our safe place of refuge.

Today’s Scripture (NLT)
Deuteronomy 32:4
“He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!”

In the ancient, arid landscape of Israel, a large rock was a symbol of stability, permanence, and protection. It provided shade from the sun, a fortress from enemies, and a foundation that could not be moved. It is with this powerful imagery that God reveals Himself as Tsur, “The Rock.”

This name reveals God’s absolute stability and reliability. In a world of shifting sands, God is the unchangeable, unshakeable foundation upon which we can build our lives. The verse says “his deeds are perfect” and He is a “faithful God who does no wrong.” His character is as solid and reliable as a great mountain.

To know God as Tsur is to find your security in Him alone. He is our strength when we are weak and our fortress when we are under attack. When everything else in life feels unstable and uncertain, The Rock is our constant. He is our place of refuge, our source of strength, and the firm foundation that will never, ever be moved.

Disciple’s Life Tip: Interact with God as Tsur, your Rock. Is there an area of your life that feels unstable or uncertain right now? In prayer, picture yourself taking your stand on a massive, solid rock. Declare, “God, you are my Rock. In the midst of this uncertainty, I build my life on you.”

Closing Prayer: Tsur, our mighty Rock, thank You for being our firm foundation. When the ground beneath us shakes, help us to cling to You, our unshakeable and faithful God. Amen.
