Transformed by Witness- Silas’ Role in the Jailer’s Conversion

July 11, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas.” – Acts 16:29 (ESV)

Good morning fellow disciples.

Acts 16:29 describes the dramatic aftermath of the earthquake in the Philippian jail. The jailer, assuming the prisoners had escaped and fearing the consequences, was on the verge of taking his own life. However, after Paul cried out that they were all still there, the jailer, overwhelmed with fear and awe, “called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas.” This passage underscores the power of a supernatural event to shake people to their core and to create an opportunity for the Gospel to be heard.

As a disciple, you may not always witness dramatic miracles, but you can be a faithful witness to God’s power in your life and in the lives of others. Silas’ presence in the Philippian jail, along with Paul, played a critical role in the jailer’s conversion. Your faithfulness, your testimony, and your willingness to share the Gospel can have a profound impact on those who are seeking or questioning.

This week, be alert to the opportunities God may give you to share your faith with those who are seeking truth. You may not know when or how your story might impact someone, so seek to be ready with an answer for the hope you have.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I will always seek to share the importance of following your commandments to the individuals I know. May my words be a constant encouragement and may I follow you always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
