“Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what should we do?’ Peter replied, ‘Each of you must repent of your sins, turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.’” – Acts 2:37-39 (NLT)
Good morning fellow disciples.
After Peter’s Spirit-filled sermon on the day of Pentecost, the crowd was deeply moved. Peter’s bold proclamation of the gospel cut to the heart of those who heard, leading them to ask the most important question: “What should we do?” Peter’s response was clear and transformational—repent, turn to God, and be baptized in Jesus’ name for the forgiveness of sins. In doing so, they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise wasn’t just for them, but for future generations and anyone who would respond to God’s call. This passage reveals the simplicity and beauty of the gospel: turn from sin, embrace Jesus, and receive the Holy Spirit who transforms and empowers.
Peter’s message empowers us to recognize that the gospel is for everyone—no matter their past or background. His call to repent and turn to God is not a message of condemnation but one of hope and renewal. Through Jesus, we receive forgiveness and the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, equipping us to live out our faith. Like Peter, we are called to share this good news boldly, trusting that God’s Spirit will work in the hearts of those who hear. When we redirect our focus from fear or hesitation to the power of the gospel, we can extend this invitation of grace to others with confidence.
Have you experienced the gift of repentance and renewal through Jesus Christ? If not, take time today to examine your heart and respond to Peter’s call: repent, turn to God, and embrace the forgiveness and power Jesus offers. If you are already walking with Christ, ask yourself: Who in my life needs to hear this message of hope? Redirect your focus from doubt or fear and prayerfully share the gospel with someone this week. Trust that God’s Spirit is working, just as He did through Peter’s words at Pentecost.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of forgiveness and the promise of Your Holy Spirit. I repent of my sins and turn to You, knowing that You alone can renew and restore me. Help me to redirect my focus to Your grace and boldly share this good news with others. Use me as Your instrument to bring hope and transformation to those around me. Thank You for the power of Your Spirit working in my life and in the lives of others. I commit to following You with a renewed heart and purpose. In Your name, Amen.
