“And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).” – John 1:42 (NIV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
John 1:42 highlights Andrew’s practical act of bringing Simon (Peter) to Jesus. “And he brought him to Jesus.” It’s a simple statement, but it speaks volumes about Andrew’s role in God’s plan. Andrew understood that the most important thing he could do for his brother was to connect him with the Messiah. Jesus then looks at Simon and renames him Cephas (Peter), signifying a transformation and a destiny of leadership and strength. Andrew’s act was instrumental in launching Peter into his divinely appointed role.
As a disciple, you may not always be the one on stage, but you can be the one who connects others to Jesus. Like Andrew, you have the ability to identify those who are seeking, those who have potential, and those who could benefit from a relationship with Christ. You are empowered to be an “introducer,” a connector, a bridge between people and Jesus. Don’t underestimate the significance of bringing someone into the presence of Jesus; you may be setting them on a path to fulfilling their God-given potential.
This week, be intentional about looking for opportunities to connect people with Jesus. Think about those in your life who might be open to exploring faith or who are in need of spiritual guidance. Consider how you can introduce them to a Christian community, share a helpful resource, or simply offer a listening ear and a word of encouragement. Redirect your focus to someone who is in need of a connection with Christ.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me the eyes to see those in my life who are seeking a connection with You. Help me to be a bridge, an introducer, a conduit of Your love and grace. Empower me to connect others with Jesus and to play a part in their journey towards fulfilling their God-given potential. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
