And they forced a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, who was coming in from the field (country), to carry His cross.
Mark 15:21 AMPC
Good morning fellow disciples.
Can you imagine being wrongfully accused, put on trial, beaten, put on trial again, beaten mercilessly, tortured and then given a cross to carry so that they could execute you on it?
Would you be strong enough to carry it?
For many of us that will never be the case. However, we may be called upon to help someone who is in that position / predicament. Sometimes we may be coerced or forced to help someone because they can’t manage.
Sometimes we ourselves may not be able to manage because we are exhausted. In this passage we see Simon of Cyrene coming from his field and being forced to carry Jesus’ cross. Yet another injustice placed on an innocent man.
How would you respond to being placed in Simon’s position?
I leave you today with the first two verses of the hymn: “So Send I You” by Margaret Clarkson.
“So send I you—to labor unrewarded,
To serve unpaid, unloved, unsought, unknown,
To bear rebuke, to suffer scorn and scoffing—
So send I you to toil for Me alone.
So send I you—to bind the bruised and broken,
O’er wand’ring souls to work, to weep, to wake,
To bear the burdens of a world aweary—
So send I you, to suffer for My sake.”
Give sacrificial service to others today! Have a blessed day, and be a blessing to others.
A very detailed and ‘new’ way of looking at the final hours of our Lord’s life. This new perspective has caused much reflection and contemplation. Thanks for being open to being led and then being obedient to write and share. Blessings 🙌
