The Final Hours -The Nonverbal Conversations Part 19

And Joseph bought a [fine] linen cloth [for swathing dead bodies], and, taking Him down from the cross, he rolled Him up in the [fine] linen cloth and placed Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of a rock. Then he rolled a [very large] stone against the door of the tomb. [Isa. 53:9; Matt. 16:4.]

The Final Hours -The Nonverbal Conversations Part 19

Good morning fellow disciples.

As I read the first phrase tears began to well up in my eyes. I wonder, was Joseph crying when he was buying this linen cloth to wrap Jesus’ dead body in. Was he overcome with emotion / grief as he thought about what he was going to do with this cloth?

What was going through Joseph’s mind as he took Jesus down from the cross? Did he speak to his Lord? Was he crying as he touched His dead body?

As he rolled Jesus’ body into the linen cloth getting his hand all bloodied, what conversation was going on?

Had the crowd left because it was now preparation time for the Sabbath?

Where persons still there, and what were they saying to Joseph? Were they being kind or harsh to him?

Were those who were crucified along with Jesus talking to Joseph?

There are so many conversations that we did not hear.

As Joseph placed Jesus’ body in the tomb and as he sealed the tomb, did he pray over Jesus’ body?

Prayer: Father God, as we see the actions of Joseph of Arimathea, we thank You for these unspoken conversations. We don’t need to hear what was said! We see and we understand! Thank You for recording this in Your Holy Scriptures so that we can see the love and care that was given to our dearly departed Jesus, Your Son. Amen.
