“because they went forth for His name’s sake, taking nothing from the Gentiles.” III John 1:7 NKJV
Good morning fellow disciples.
In the previous verses we have been looking at Gaius but today we shift our focus a little to his fellow disciples. We see that Gaius was someone who supported others and took care of others, but today we will look at a specific class of persons.
III John 1:5-6 NKJV says “Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the brethren and for strangers, who have borne witness of your love before the church. If you send them forward on their journey in a manner worthy of God, you will do well,”
If you send them forward on their journey in a manner worthy of God, you will do well. Why? Because they went forth for His name’s sake, taking nothing from the Gentiles. John was telling Gaius that his faithful support of missionaries, his fellow disciples, was something great because they went out to do God’s work without looking to persons who were not aligned to God for help. So when they came to Gaius and his church, and they were offered help to continue on their missions this was something that was exemplary.
This shows us as a church that we should support those who go out on missions. We should not allow them to go to the secular world for financial support for Kingdom missions. It is up to us as a church, as fellow believers to support those who go out to spread the gospel in places where we are unable to.
Prayer: Father God, help us to care for our fellow disciples who go out on missions. Help us to be hospitable to them. Help us to support them financially, prayerfully, and in whatever ways we can so that their missions into areas where we can’t be will be successful.
Help us to do these things from hearts that are totally submitted and surrendered to You. Help us to send them forward on their journey in a manner that is pleasing to You. This I pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
