Acts 1:15, 21 (NLT): “During this time, when about 120 believers were together in one place, Peter stood up and addressed them.” (Acts 1:15)
“‘So now we must choose a replacement for Judas from among the men who were with us the entire time we were traveling with the Lord Jesus.'” (Acts 1:21)
Good morning fellow disciples.
In this passage, we see Peter stepping into his role as a leader among the early believers. Following Jesus’ ascension, the disciples faced the important task of replacing Judas, and it was Peter who stood up to guide them in this process. His words reflect both his understanding of Scripture and his commitment to the unity and mission of the church.
Peter, now transformed by Christ’s grace and empowered by his faith, models what it means to take responsibility in times of uncertainty. He doesn’t act out of personal ambition but out of a desire to fulfill God’s mission. His leadership is rooted in prayerful discernment and a commitment to Scripture, as seen in the way he references the Psalms (Acts 1:20). Peter redirects the focus of the group from their loss and confusion to their calling and responsibility as witnesses of Christ.
Simon Peter’s example empowers us to step up in faith and lead when circumstances call for it. Despite his past failures, Peter embraces his God-given role, showing that leadership in the Kingdom is not about perfection but about obedience and devotion to God’s mission. Peter reminds us that leadership requires courage, wisdom, and a willingness to serve others.
Peter’s initiative in uniting and guiding the early believers calls us to trust God’s ability to use us, even if we feel unqualified or uncertain. His reliance on Scripture and prayer also teaches us that godly leadership flows from a deep connection with God’s Word and His presence.
Is there a place where God is calling you to step up in leadership or service? Perhaps in your family, workplace, church, or community? Like Peter, redirect your focus from self-doubt or fear and instead look to God’s mission for your life. Leadership doesn’t always mean standing at the front—it often means faithfully serving, guiding, and encouraging others toward Christ.
Identify one area in your life where you can step up and take responsibility for serving or leading. This might involve initiating prayer in your family, volunteering at church, encouraging a friend, or guiding others in tough situations. Spend time in prayer, asking God for the wisdom and courage to lead according to His will.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the example of Peter, who stepped up in faith to guide and serve the early church. Help me to redirect my focus to Your mission and the ways You are calling me to lead and serve. Teach me to rely on Your Word and Your Spirit as I take on responsibility, trusting in Your grace and strength. I commit to being a faithful servant and leader, wherever You place me. In Your name, I pray. Amen.
