“Then the brothers immediately sent Paul off on his way to the sea, but Silas and Timothy remained there [in Berea].” – Acts 17:14 (ESV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Acts 17:14 reveals Silas’ commitment to caring for the new believers in Berea. When opposition followed Paul and Silas to Berea, “the brothers immediately sent Paul off on his way to the sea,” to protect him. Importantly, the verse states that “Silas and Timothy remained there.” This decision underscores Silas’ willingness to stay behind and to nurture the newly formed church, even in the face of potential danger. While Paul moved on, Silas stayed to provide stability, guidance, and support.
As a disciple, you may be called to step out of your comfort zone and to embrace new challenges, but you may also be called to stay put and to care for those who are already in your sphere of influence. Silas’ example reminds you that both roles are important and that faithfulness in the small things can have a lasting impact. You are empowered to be a source of stability, encouragement, and support to those around you.
This week, evaluate your own commitment to the people and the places where you are currently serving. Are you tempted to move on to something new, or are you willing to stay and invest in the lives of those who are already in your care? Commit to being a faithful presence, a reliable source of support, and a consistent example of Christ-like love.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be faithful in the place where you have planted me. Give me the wisdom to know when to stay and when to move on. Empower me to be a source of stability, encouragement, and support to those around me. May my life be a reflection of your love, your grace, and your truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
