Scripture : 1 Samuel 16:13. Samuel took the olive oil and anointed David in front of his brothers. Immediately the spirit of the Lord took control of David and was with him from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Ramah.
23. From then on, whenever the evil spirit sent by God came on Saul, David would get his harp and play it. The evil spirit would leave, and Saul would feel better and be all right again. 1 Samuel 16:13, 23 GNTD
Observation : Whenever David played the harp, the evil spirit would leave and Saul would feel better. Was it the music that made the evil spirit leave? Or was it because David had God’s Spirit and was the one who played the music why the evil spirit left?
I believe it was the latter.
We have all experienced the use of music in worship. We see it used when making an altar call, when praying for healing and deliverance, but music by itself is not the source of release from oppression. There are many things that we can do religiously without them causing change.
I am reminded of the seven sons of Sceva who tried to expel a demon unsuccessfully. The reason for failure was that they did not have the proper relationship with God, and therefore did not have His Holy Spirit and therefore lacked the power and authority to expel the evil spirit.
Application : I am filled with God’s Spirit, and I will allow Him to use me to bring healing and deliverance to those in need.
Prayer : Father God I submit to You and ask You to work through me to heal and deliver those in need. We will overcome the evil ones by Jesus’ Word, my testimony and Your Holy Spirit working through me. Amen.
