Singing Strengthens Us

By Andrew Williams

Well, my brothers and sisters, let’s summarize. When you meet together, one will sing, another will teach, another will tell some special revelation God has given, one will speak in tongues, and another will interpret what is said. But everything that is done must strengthen all of you.
1 Corinthians 14:26 NLT

Good morning fellow disciples.

We all need to be strengthened. When we fellowship together many of us think that it’s only the spoken word that edifies us / builds us up. That’s where the focus of many services usually is.

However, in this passage we see that there are many ways for us to be edified. This includes ministry in song, teachings, prophecies, and tongues with interpretations of tongues.

The last sentence of this verse tells us that everything that is done must strengthen all of us. This means that all that we do together must strengthen each other.

Have you ever been to a church service where a part of the service does not edify you? Have you ever been to a church service where none of the ministries edifies you?

When you sing, when we sing, it should not only glorify God but edify the whole church! If you’re singing and it’s not doing that, please stop!

Sing to strengthen yourself! Sing to strengthen your fellow disciple! Sing, to strengthen the entire church!

Prayer: Father God, as we come together to worship You, may everything we do strengthen each other. Even though our relationship and fellowship with You may vary one from another, may our singing inspire us to:

“Rescue the perishing,
Care for the dying,
Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Weep o’er the erring one, lift up the fallen,
Tell them of Jesus the mighty to save.

Rescue the perishing,
Care for the dying;
Jesus is merciful,
Jesus will save.”

Amen.
