Sing Even When You Are Sad

By Andrew Williams

Beside the rivers of Babylon, we sat and wept as we thought of Jerusalem. We put away our harps, hanging them on the branches of poplar trees. For our captors demanded a song from us. Our tormentors insisted on a joyful hymn: “Sing us one of those songs of Jerusalem!” But how can we sing the songs of the Lord while in a pagan land?
Psalms 137:1‭-‬4 NLT

Good morning fellow disciples.

We may find ourselves in situations where singing prayerfully, singing joyfully, or singing unto the Lord seems impossible. It is in times like these that we really need to redirect our focus!

We need to take our focus off the situation or off of our troubles and put our focus on The One who deserves our praise.

No matter what situation we find ourselves in, the one thing that remains constant is our Father God. He is never changing! He is always worthy of receiving praise and worship.

So, no matter how sad, dejected, oppressed, tormented, or otherwise not in the mood to sing praises to God, put those feelings aside and sing joyfully to God!

Your praise filled songs to God can bring peace and joy to your saddened heart.

Prayer: Father God, as we sing to You in our state of sadness, we are assured that:

“Joys are flowing like a river,
Since the Comforter has come;
He abides with us forever,
Makes the trusting heart His home.

Blessed quietness, holy quietness—
What assurance in my soul!
On the stormy sea He speaks peace to me.
How the billows cease to roll!”

Thank You Lord for turning our sadness into joy when we sing praises to You. Amen.
