Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives.
Mark 14:26 NLT
Good morning fellow disciples.
When we read this verse in context, we realize that Jesus and his disciples had just finished sharing the Passover meal together. On this occasion Jesus had told them about His impending death, prophesied that they would all abandon Him, instituted the communion, and prayed for them.
They were now heading out to the Mount of Olives, somewhere they had gone to on multiple occasions with Jesus. Even though Jesus told them that this would be the last time they would spend together with Him before His crucifixion, they didn’t believe Him.
They ended their time of fellowship in song and then embarked on their journey. They sang praises as they changed from one location to another.
Do you sing praises to God, and pray to Him before you go on a journey?
Are you focused on spending time with God before you go on a journey that may be routine?
Spend time singing praises to God before you embark on your journey! Who knows, maybe it will be the last time you fellowship with Him or others.
Prayer: Come, let us sing to the Lord! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come to him with thanksgiving. Let us sing psalms of praise to him.
Come, let us worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord our maker, for he is our God. We are the people he watches over, the flock under his care. If only you would listen to his voice today!
(Psalms 95:1-2, 6-7 NLT) Amen.
