“The report of this reached the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.” – Acts 11:22 (ESV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Acts 11:22 highlights the trust and respect that the Jerusalem church had for Barnabas. When news of a significant number of Gentile conversions in Antioch reached Jerusalem, the church leaders chose Barnabas to investigate and provide guidance to the growing, multicultural community. This decision suggests that Barnabas was known for his wisdom, his discernment, and his ability to navigate complex situations with grace and understanding. His Cypriot background (Cyprus being geographically near Antioch) may have also been a factor.
As a disciple, you may be called to serve in challenging or unfamiliar contexts. Barnabas’s example reminds you that God can use your unique background, experiences, and gifts to minister to others, even in situations that seem daunting or complex. You are empowered to be a bridge-builder, connecting different cultures, perspectives, and backgrounds in the name of Christ. To achieve this, make sure to put your faith in God and redirect your focus to Him.
This week, consider how you can use your unique gifts and experiences to serve God and to connect with those who are different from you. Be open to opportunities to minister in unfamiliar contexts and to build bridges between different cultures and perspectives.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to use my unique gifts and experiences to serve you and to connect with those who are different from me. Give me the wisdom, the discernment, and the grace to minister in challenging situations and to build bridges between different cultures and perspectives. May my life be a testament to your love, your grace, and your unifying power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
