Seeking the Gifts of the Spirit

By Andrew Williams

Luke 11:13 (NLT): “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Good morning fellow disciples.

This verse offers a powerful and comforting truth: our heavenly Father is far more generous and loving than even the best earthly parent. It uses a powerful analogy. Even imperfect parents strive to give good things to their children. How much more will our perfect, loving heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask? The “good gift” in question is the Holy Spirit, the source of all spiritual gifts and power. This isn’t a promise of material wealth or worldly success; it’s a promise of spiritual empowerment, the ability to live a life pleasing to God and to serve Him effectively.

The key is the act of asking. We are not passive recipients; we are active participants in receiving God’s blessings. We must approach Him with humility and faith, expressing our desire for the Holy Spirit’s guidance and empowerment.

Empowerment from the Verse:  This verse empowers us with the knowledge that God is eager to bestow His gifts upon us. He doesn’t withhold His blessings; He longs to pour them out upon those who seek Him. This removes any sense of unworthiness or inadequacy. If we are willing to ask, He is willing to give. It’s a call to bold faith, a confidence in the generosity of our heavenly Father. It encourages us to approach God with expectant hearts, believing that He will answer our prayers and equip us for His service.

Your Task:  Today, I urge you to approach God with a humble and expectant heart. Ask Him for the Holy Spirit’s empowering presence in your life. Ask Him to reveal your spiritual gifts and to guide you in using them for His glory. Don’t be afraid to ask boldly, believing that He is willing and able to answer your prayers. Be specific in your requests. Ask for clarity, for strength, for wisdom, for discernment, for the courage to serve. Expect His answer, and watch for His leading in your life.

Prayer: Father God, we thank You for Your boundless generosity and Your willingness to give good gifts to those who ask. We come before You today with humble hearts, asking for the Holy Spirit’s empowering presence in our lives. Reveal to us our spiritual gifts and guide us in using them for Your glory. We trust in Your love and grace, believing that You will answer our prayers and equip us for Your service. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
