“Saul was one of the witnesses, and he approved of the killing of Stephen. A great wave of persecution began that day, sweeping over the church in Jerusalem; and all the believers except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.” – Acts 8:1 (NLT)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Acts 8:1 marks a significant turning point in the narrative of the early church. It acknowledges Saul’s (later the Apostle Paul) approval of Stephen’s stoning and the subsequent “great wave of persecution” that engulfed the believers in Jerusalem. The result was that most believers, except the apostles, were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. Ironically, this persecution, intended to suppress the Gospel, became the very means by which it spread. What the enemy meant for evil, God used for good, transforming a moment of intense suffering into an opportunity for widespread evangelism.
As a disciple, you may experience setbacks, challenges, or even persecution in your journey of faith. You may wonder if God is still in control, especially when things seem to be falling apart. Remember that God is sovereign and that He can use even the most difficult circumstances to accomplish His purposes. Just as the persecution in Jerusalem led to the scattering of believers and the spread of the Gospel, God can use your trials to strengthen your faith, refine your character, and open doors for ministry and witness. Trust in His wisdom and faithfulness, even when you cannot see the outcome.
This week, reflect on any setbacks or challenges you may be facing in your life. Ask God to reveal how He might be using these circumstances for His glory and your growth. Look for opportunities to share your faith, even in difficult or unexpected situations. Redirect your focus to the opportunities God provides, and remember that your testimony can be a powerful witness to God’s love and power.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to trust in Your wisdom and faithfulness, even when I face setbacks or challenges. Show me how You are using these circumstances for Your glory and my growth. Open doors for me to share my faith and to be a witness to Your love and power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
