Resurrection Petition

By Andrew Williams

About this time she became ill and died. Her body was washed for burial and laid in an upstairs room. But the believers had heard that Peter was nearby at Lydda, so they sent two men to beg him, “Please come as soon as possible!”
Acts of the Apostles 9:37‭-‬38 NLT‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Good morning fellow disciples.

Petition: something asked or requested, or an earnest request.

The interesting thing about this account is that nowhere is it stated that they asked Peter to raise Dorcas from the dead. All we hear is them asking Peter to come as soon as possible, and when he arrived they started showing him everything that she had done for them.

Peter then sent them out of the room, prayed over Dorcas and then told her to come back to life. And the body heard Peter’s voice and it came back to life!

If you are called to go to visit someone who had died by persons who were mourning him or her, what would you do?

When you arrive on the scene will you:

1. Offer your condolences,

2. Start mourning along with those present, or

3. Will you resurrect the dead?

What would you do if someone petitioned you to raise their loved one from the dead?

Do you have the faith and boldness to pray over the dead and tell the dead body to come back to life?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You said in Matthew 10:7‭-‬8 NLT “Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received!”

Peter obeyed Your command!

I will also obey!

I will preach the gospel, heal the sick, raise the dead, cure illnesses, and cast out demons! Amen.

  1. According to the passage Dorcas was an active disciple, charitable and committed to her assignment.
Peter in obedience to God prayed,
spoke the word of healing and life was restored.
Today we don’t see or hear of much persons been brought back to life, however there are many dead situations we can petition God for
as we move out in faith and seek restoration.
