“‘Who touched me?’ Jesus asked. Everyone denied it, and Peter said, ‘Master, this whole crowd is pressing up against you.’ But Jesus said, ‘Someone deliberately touched me, for I felt healing power go out from me.'” – Luke 8:45-46 (NLT)
Good morning fellow disciples.
In this passage, we find Peter once again speaking up, this time in response to Jesus’ surprising question: “Who touched me?” The scene is chaotic—a large crowd pressing in on Jesus as He moves through the streets. To Peter, the question seemed almost absurd. His practical mind focused on the obvious: How could anyone tell who touched Jesus in such a crowd?
But Jesus wasn’t asking about a casual or accidental touch. He was referring to a deliberate act of faith—the touch of a woman who believed that merely touching His robe would bring her healing. Peter, in his usual straightforward manner, noted the physical reality of the situation, but Jesus was directing attention to a spiritual truth: faith draws power from Him.
Peter’s response reminds us of how easy it is to focus on what we can see and understand, rather than trusting in the unseen power of Jesus. While Peter was caught up in the crowd and the natural circumstances, Jesus was showing that His power is personal and transformative, responding to even the smallest acts of faith.
Peter’s reaction empowers us to recognize our own moments of doubt or distraction when it comes to trusting Jesus. Like Peter, we may sometimes focus too much on what seems logical or visible in our circumstances. Yet Jesus invites us to redirect our focus to His supernatural power and the faith that connects us to Him.
This passage reminds us that Jesus is never too busy or overwhelmed to respond to a single act of faith. Just as He stopped to acknowledge the woman who touched Him in faith, He sees and responds to your faith, even when it feels small or unnoticed. Peter’s journey shows us that even when we don’t fully understand what Jesus is doing, we can trust in His ability to work in ways beyond our comprehension.
Today, take a moment to reflect on areas in your life where you’ve been focusing only on what you can see, rather than trusting in Jesus’ unseen power. Bring those situations to Him in prayer, asking for the faith to trust Him even when things don’t make sense. Then, take a step of faith—whether it’s praying for healing, trusting Him with a difficult decision, or reaching out to someone in need. Redirect your focus from the crowd of distractions around you and fix your eyes on Jesus, knowing that He responds to faith.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for reminding me through Peter’s journey that Your power is not limited by what I can see or understand. I confess that there are times when I focus too much on the circumstances around me and forget the unseen ways You are working in my life. Help me to redirect my focus to You and trust in Your power, even when things feel overwhelming or unclear. Strengthen my faith, Lord, and help me to approach You with confidence, knowing that You see and respond to my needs. Use my life to bring glory to Your name. In Your name, I pray, Amen.
What a touch!
Jesus is still touching people today, may we allow our lives to touch others today🙏
