“The kingdom of God is like this,” He said. “A man scatters seed on the ground; he sleeps and rises — night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows — he doesn’t know how. The soil produces a crop by itself — first the blade, then the head, and then the ripe grain on the head. But as soon as the crop is ready, he sends for the sickle, because the harvest has come.”
Mark 4:26-29 HCSB
Good morning fellow disciples.
The kingdom of heaven is like a crop. There are some important elements and a progression that is seen. There is a sower, soil, and time.
The sower is the one who sows the seed. As he walks through the field he sows the seed that will produce a mature crop. The Bible does not say that he only sowed once. He may actually sow in many different fields or in the same field at different times, therefore producing many crops.
The second element is the soil. The sower has to have somewhere to sow the seed. We know from another parable that the seed is the word of God, and the soil is the heart of mankind.
The third element is time. The Bible says that that the man sows and then goes through many sleep cycles while leaving the seed to germinate and mature into a plant that produces fruit.
How many times have you proclaimed the gospel of the kingdom of God and have not seen anything happen in the lives of the persons that you proclaim it to?
How much time did you give before looking to see whether the gospel had produced fruit?
Sometimes we see no evidence of the Kingdom of God being being propagated, but like this man who sowed seed, we need to be patient and allow time to pass before we see the effects of our teaching / preaching / discipling.
I implore you to get the good seed to plant in good soil, allow time to pass, and go and check to see if it has sprouted.
Prayer: Father God, help me to be like the man in this parable who went about planting good seed in good soil. Help me to patiently wait as time progresses to see Your word producing someone who grows into maturity who will also produce good fruit.
I will be faithful in proclaiming the gospel of Your Kingdom wherever I go. I will allow Your Word to work in the hearts of mankind to produce the fruit that You desire. Amen.
