Acts 10:30-33 (NLT) “Cornelius replied, ‘Four days ago I was praying in my house about this same time, three o’clock in the afternoon. Suddenly, a man in dazzling clothes was standing in front of me. He told me, “Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your gifts to the poor have been noticed by God! Now send messengers to Joppa, and summon a man named Simon Peter. He is staying in the home of Simon, a tanner who lives near the seashore.” So I sent for you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here, waiting before God to hear the message the Lord has given you.’”
Good morning fellow disciples.
Cornelius demonstrates a remarkable readiness to obey God. When he received the angel’s message, he didn’t hesitate—he acted immediately. Not only did Cornelius obey by sending for Peter, but he also gathered his family and friends, knowing that God was about to speak through Peter in a profound way. Cornelius’ heart was fully prepared to hear from God, and his faith and obedience opened the door for the transformative message of the Gospel to reach his household.
Cornelius’ example reminds us of the importance of being spiritually ready to hear and act on God’s call. He was faithful in prayer, generous in serving others, and open to whatever God had in store. His eagerness to obey and his willingness to involve others in God’s work are marks of a true disciple. As disciples, we, too, are empowered to redirect our focus to an attitude of readiness—remaining prayerful, obedient, and expectant for God to work in and through us.
This week, take inventory of your heart. Are you spiritually prepared to hear and respond to God’s call? Spend intentional time in prayer, asking God to align your heart with His will. Look for ways to involve others in what God is doing—invite a friend to join you in prayer, share a testimony, or encourage someone to seek God’s direction in their life. Redirect your focus to being expectant and ready for God to speak, and commit to acting on His instructions without hesitation.
Prayer: Father God, thank You for the example of Cornelius, whose readiness to obey and seek You inspires me to do the same. Forgive me for the times I’ve been distracted or hesitant to respond to Your call. Help me to redirect my focus to a posture of readiness, staying faithful in prayer and open to Your leading. Prepare my heart to hear Your voice and give me the courage to act immediately when You reveal Your plan. Use me to bring others into Your presence and to share Your message of hope and salvation. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
